Defending Europe

From 10 to 16 June, VERTIGO managed in Warsaw, Kyiv and north-eastern Poland, the filming of the documentary series (3 x 52 mins) DEFENDING EUROPE, written by Muriel Domenach and Ruth Zylberman, and directed by Ruth Zylberman. This is a Franco-Polish co-production for ARTE FRANCE and TVP, marking a new collaboration between Zadig Productions (Céline Nusse, Paris) and Vertigo (Rafael Lewandowski, Warsaw).

DEFENDING EUROPE focuses on the geopolitical history of NATO in Europe from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the present day. It will be broadcast in spring 2027. Confronted with an expansionist Russia and American disengagement, Europe – heir to the tragedies of the 20th century and a bastion of liberal democracy – must break with decades of ‘peace dividends’ and rearm. It now stands at a historic turning point: to become a geopolitical power capable of defending itself, alone or within a weakened alliance. How can we cope with this dual pressure from Russia and the US? At what cost, and with what consequences for societies accustomed to peace?

DEFENDING EUROPE will be broadcast in spring 2027.
