The film tells the story of Zygmunt Lubicz-Zaleski (1882–1967) – a poet, writer, translator, music, art and literary critic, doctor of philosophy, and author. Forced to emigrate due to political reasons, in 1914 he committed himself fully to teaching Polish in France.

Like thousands of other young Poles, Klementyna and Wojtek immigrated to Ireland in 2005. Four years later, they decided to go back home. The economic crisis which has suddenly affected Irish economy within the last few months is one of the main reasons for their return, but not the crucial one.

For fifty years, Willy Holt was silent. He wanted to live, to have a family : he needed to forget. In 1995, however, this famous art director decided to pass on his memory through the story of his deportation. Confronting his words with those of his daughter, of high school students and of his companions of misfortune (Jorge Semprun, Roman Polanski), he tries to give meaning to his survival.
